12 Volt Wiring: Wire Gauge to Amps

A stereo has multiple components that work in tandem in order to produce and emit sound waves through speakers. Different stereos will have different parts depending on the makeup of the system. Some come with all of the components built into one unit while others have separate components that need to be wired together. An equalizer is a piece of audio equipment that allows users to adjust the frequency responses of audio signals in order to deliver higher quality sound. They come with a number of different features, but they all serve to adjust the sound level frequencies. Graphic equalizers need to operate with a stereo receiver or amplifier in order to control the sound frequencies. It’s easy to learn how to hook up a graphic equalizer to an amplifier. Just follow these simple steps.

This is necessary when one is adding an amplifier to a factory head unit, since factory head units do not have RCA outputs to get signals from. It consists of a transformer and 10 to 20 watts a high-voltage resistor and connects to amp by using RCA patch cable. The amplifier in the head unit is being loaded by the resistor. It has also an adjustable gain feature to pull output.

Most of the line output converters have wire to ground the transformer. The transformer will provide the variation of voltage between the two input terminals.

Ok, so after I read this arcticle i knew that my amplifier is one of those “too good to be true” amplifiers. Now that I know that. I have a question about the power source to my car. i currently have an lc7 hooked up to my factory bose amp to connect my amplifier.

Decide how much, and what gauge power cable you will need. Decide how long your RCA cables will need to be. You should take into account that the cable will be running from the center of the car, out to the side, and around several bends and curves. When deciding how much power cable, think about how you will run the cables first! It is often easier to just take out the seats, kick panels, and sill plates before starting.

It just makes it easier to work, and often you need to do all that anyway. Removing the front seats is optional, but it gives you more room, easier to lift the carpet, and it is often best to run the wires there. As you remove the seats, take note of where they run close to the floorpan. It’s easy to accidentally crush your wiring when bolting the seat down, and that is very frustrating.

A cordless drill and a socket set make it a breeze. I have taken apart many an interior in 10 minutes, and can assemble it again in about 15, if I am in a hurry. Mount the amp s.

LOADS Amplifiers are designed to power a specific “load”, meaning a speaker or set of speakers having a specific “AC impedance” measured in ohms. Impedance resists the flow of electric current so the higher the speaker impedance the less current the amplifier has to supply. Conversely, the lower the impedance the more current must be supplied.

Jun 03,  · Best Answer: Some amps have high voltage inputs allowing you to wire the speaker wires from the deck directly into the amp! Check your amp to see if it has any high voltage inputs if not you will need a convertor like the other guy said or get a better deck!Status: Resolved.

At this point, buying preamps and discrete seperate audio components may well be getting you in too deep. There’s a lot of knowledge you need to have before you try to do anything in that route. Especially since you’re talking about 4-ohm speakers. Almost all consumer-level equipment is 8-ohm If you use different impedance equipment say 4ohm speakers with a receiver rated for 8ohms without taking into consideration all the factors, you can easily damage or destroy your speakers and the amplifier section of your receiver or discrete amplifier, etc etc It is possible to run mismatched equipment but speakers have to be hooked up in groups bye bye 5.

There is such a thing as a bridgeable amplifier, but no, you can’t hook two high-ohm receivers together to run a low-ohm speaker. As for how much power you need, watts per channel is more than enough for most people’s home theatre. Go much above that and you’ll be getting the cops called on you for noise complaints. You were asking me about running this system for listening to mp3s and downloaded movies off your computer.

To be brutally honest, you’re going way overkill. The Yamaha RX series receivers you were looking at were perfect for what you’re wanting to do. Even they might be a bit overkill. Let me tell you a secret: Starting off with a quality receiver, and a nice set of floorstanding or bookshelf speakers is all you’ll need.

How to hook up amp to car stereo without RCA output?

The current drawn isn’t continuous, it spikes and dips according to the music you play, and the volume. You need to overrate the PSU substantially, to allow for these spikes – not doing so will cause the power supply to burn out with extended use, or may constantly trip its overload protection mechanisms. Do NOT exceed As rexter said, the actual battery voltage is higher than 12V.

After you do that, connect the other end of the dual wire to the corresponding (+) and (-) on the car amp. Make sure the (+) and (-) you connect to are alongside each other, unless you are bridging the amp.

How to Diagnose a Car Battery Drain How to Diagnose a Car Battery Drain by Rocco Lovetere on Share Tweet Pin It is safe to say that every car owner reading this has likely experienced that time where you were leaving your home or walking out to your sitting car, only to discover that the battery in your car was dead. This scenario is very common, but this case is actually different because the same thing happened the day before. You may have had AAA or a certified mechanic check the charging system, and find both the battery and alternator to be functioning properly.

Well then, there is something electrical in your vehicle that is draining your battery and that is what we call a parasitic battery draw. So how do we know if you do have a parasitic draw, or if it is really just a misdiagnosed bad battery?

If your present system has only two speakers you may be thinking of converting it to four speakers in the future. If so, make sure you buy a graphic equalizer that has a .

You can never be too careful when it comes to this point. Turn Off your breaker or light switch that controls your furnace. Keep in mind that a high number of Breaker panels are mislabeled. Open your furnace and find where your power is coming in from, most likely one of the sides. Trace it down to the junction box or in my case simply the circuit board. Pull off any covers and then test for voltage. I like to use the Fluke Voltage Stick first, But you first must make sure it works on a live circuit and then you can test it out.

After you have verified the power is off, carefully remove the wire nuts and test with a Voltage or Multi-Meter. Once you are darn sure there is no power then you are safe to work on it. Some might be Red, Orange, Brown etc. You must rewire it exactly as it was. I put the conduit with the wires coming from the breaker into the Outlet Box and then level it where I would like to mount it. Screw it to the wall or furnace with the appropriate screws.

Next you need to wire in your Single Receptacle Outlet, You may need to cut back your wires and strip them at this point.

Easy Generator to Home Hook Up

Amplifiers are commonly added to car audio systems to provide extra power for speakers and subwoofers. Remote wires are included in amplifier wiring kits or can be purchased individually. Installing a remote wire is a simple task that should take less than 30 minutes.

Of course you can connect multiple speakers to both the left and right amp of a stereo – you just need to follow the principles twice, once for each amp. Multiple Speakers on One Amplifier By adding an extra speaker to the output of an amplifier, you are adding to the load of the amplifier.

Curtis answered 5 years ago Look for a capacitor for car audio systems. I would look into upgrading your alternator also. Report Ilregal answered 5 years ago You need to hook those batteries correctly or you will end up with 24 volt on a 12 volt system and that’s not good for 12 volt wiring and you will be sorry. The following is how you will need to do it, If you are going to buy new 12 Volt or 6 Volt batteries for your car as your probably trying to power a monster stereo and this is how you’d want to do it for a RV also, it is important to know how to wire them properly so that you do not damage your cars electrical system.

Although this is an easy concept to understand, many people tend to get this wrong. Basically, there are two ways to wire your batteries: In RVs where 6 Volt batteries are used, you may need to use a combination of both these methods to get 12 Volt output and increase the amount of total Amp Hours simultaneously. And as usual I don’t do one liners so you might just want to cut and paste this and save it, so I’ll provide some examples also, ok With batteries wired in series, the Voltage increases but the Amperage remains the same.

If you[ take two 6 Volt batteries] that have a capacity rating of Amp Hours each and you wire them in series, you will get a total of [12 Volts] of power; however, the total Amp Hours will remain the same at a total of Amp Hours. This is how you create 12 Volts from two 6 Volt batteries. Following is a graphic that represents two 6 Volt batteries wired in series.

Report Ilregal answered 5 years ago OK, so that was two 6 volt batteries at amp hours, now if you did the same with two 12 volt batteries you would have 24 volt in your car, and believe me, that’s not good!! With batteries wired in parallel, the Voltage remains the same but the amperage increases. If you take [ two 12 Volt batteries that have a capacity of Amp Hours each] and you wire them in parallel, the Voltage will remain the same at 12 Volts; however, [ the total Amp Hours will increase to Amp Hours].
